Fatherhood - Daily Devotions

Remember, the family is established by God but is an earthly institute and temporal, however the Body

of Christ is heavenly and eternal. Therefore parenting for our children to be secure in Christ trumps

parenting to be secured in the family:

Do not worship children

Luke 14:26 (ESV)

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and

brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.

Pray for God’s favor on children

Luke 2:40 (ESV)

40 And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.

Luke 2:52 (ESV)

52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

Seek to really know each member of the family in an understanding way

1 Peter 3:7 (ESV)

7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as

the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be

hindered.

Teach your children to prioritize Christ

Matthew 12:46-49 (ESV)

While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to

speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”

And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!

When children disobey, be ready to watch (spiritually), feel compassion (emotionally), run

(physically), embrace (relationally), kiss (sacrificially):

Luke 15:20 (ESV)

20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and

felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.

Train your child in the way THEY should go:

Proverbs 22:6 (ESV)

6 Train up a child in the way he should go;

even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Approach your children in a way that decreases their anger and opens up their spiritual

hunger:

Ephesians 6:4 (ESV)

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of

the Lord.
