Identify the Weight that Slows Your Walk

Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV)

Jesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith

Therefore,  since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before  him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right  hand of the throne of God.

Some thoughts on this pillar:

1. Think about how this first part relates to Psalm 139:23-24:

Therefore, since we are surrounded  by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, …  let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

2. Weight is ogkos- (ong-KOS) encumbrance - bulk or mass

3. Piper: Don’t ask, “What’s wrong with this or that?” Ask, “Does it help me run for Jesus?

4.  FB Meyer:  “Every believer must be left to decide his own special weight. We may not judge for another. What weight to one is not to all.”
